About Causeway Mummers Causeway
Mummers brings the ancient folk tradition of mumming to life along the Causeway Coast. Drawing on Sorcha’s passion for history, storytelling and performance, the group revives this centuries-old custom through lively masked theatre, music and folklore.
Mumming is a traditional form of folk performance with roots in European winter festivals, where disguised performers would visit homes and communities to present plays, dances and songs. Over time these performances evolved into dramatic folk plays, often centred on heroic tales in which characters battle, fall and are miraculously revived by a travelling doctor.
Causeway Mummers reimagines this tradition for modern audiences, weaving local myths, music and history into immersive performances inspired by the landscapes and legends of the Causeway Coast. From the dramatic setting of Dunluce Castle to the myths surrounding the Giant’s Causeway, audiences encounter characters from Irish folklore, including the legendary Finn McCool.
Expect a lively celebration of heritage and storytelling, with masked characters, theatrical flair and energetic traditional music – an engaging cultural experience for locals and visitors alike.
