Puffin Claymation with Fiona Shannon - WEEK 1

9th August 2023

In July we hosted an exciting journey into the world of Claymation for young minds aged 8 to 12. Guided by the skilled hands of ceramicist Fiona Shannon, this artistic endeavour was nothing short of magical. Inspired by the enchanting Puffin Rock Exhibition, the participants embarked on a voyage of storytelling and animation that resulted in captivating stop-motion videos.

The process was a dynamic one. Starting with a spark of inspiration drawn from the Puffin Rock Exhibition, each young creator devised their unique storylines. These imaginative tales took shape through storyboards, mapping out the journey that their clay characters would embark upon. The characters themselves were brought to life through vibrant and colourful clay, forming the heart and soul of their narratives.

The true magic happened when the cameras started rolling. With each frame captured, the clay characters seemed to spring into motion, crafting a seamless dance of movement and emotion. Every twist and turn of the story was carefully orchestrated through the meticulous arrangement of each clay figure, bringing the envisioned tales to life in an awe-inspiring manner.

The fusion of age-old artistic techniques with modern technology has resulted in a stunning showcase of storytelling, proving that art knows no boundaries or limitations. As these videos continue to inspire and delight, let us eagerly anticipate the future masterpieces that these young artists will undoubtedly craft.

Well done to everyone who took part and thank you to tutor Fiona Shannon.
