7 August to 11 September
An exhibition showcasing artwork from the last 100 years from Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Arts and Museums Collections
7 August - 11 September 2021 at Flowerfield Arts Centre
1 - 31 December at Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre
Causeway Collection 100 presents an exhibition of visual arts created within the last one hundred years, from Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s esteemed collections. The exhibition draws together artwork from the Arts and Museum Services, most of which have been bequeathed or donated to Council and created by acclaimed artists associated with the borough.
Spanning landscape to still life and portraiture, the exhibition captures our shared sense of belonging within this dramatic and beautiful landscape and coastline and explores our shared heritage and passion for culture over the last one hundred years.
One cannot fail to notice how our beautiful environment of the Causeway Coast and Glens has inspired these individual artists. Stunning locations including Whiterocks beach, Portbradden, Cushendun, >span class="s10">Murlough Bay, the North Coast and Antrim Coast are all captured in these works. The sense of reverence of the environment and the sea is also reflected in other works.
As well as individual items which have been donated to the Arts and Museum Services, some works within both service collections were purchased or obtained with assistance from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. Others were bequeathed to legacy councils including the Robert Sellar Print Collection to Coleraine Borough Council and the Peggy McSparran Collection to former Moyle District Council (which included multiple paintings by Charles McAuley). Some of the more recent works exhibited are part of the Causeway Coast Arts Collection, established by the legacy councils’ Causeway Coast Arts Committee before it dissolved in 2015.
Causeway Collection 100 includes works by Jim Allen, Brian Ballard, Basil Blackshaw, Sarah Carrington, Brian Connolly, Sara Cunningham-Bell, Diarmuid Delargy, Micky Donnelly, David DuBose, Erroll Forbes, Adam Frew, Ivan Frew, Julian Friers, Ann Henderson, Pat Irwin, Annette Hennessy, Catherine Keenan, Charles McAuley, Louise McLean, Michael McGuinness, James McNulty, Ross Wilson, and Norman Wilkinson.
