Piano classics from Brahms, Beethoven and more at Flowerfield

Acclaimed soloist lines up a Portstewart appearance

Richard Deering
Richard Deering – giving a piano recital at Flowerfield Arts Centre on Wednesday November 18

THE CONCERT grand piano at Flowerfield Arts Centre will go through its paces in style on Wednesday November 18, when the centre welcomes a performance from the acclaimed pianist Richard Deering.

Television and on-stage performances throughout the world have won Richard Deering a reputation as one of Britain's leading - and most entertaining - soloists and lecture-recitalists.

For the Portstewart performance, Richard will be offering a selection that will include pieces by Haydn, Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Brahams, and a work he promises which will be ‘off mainstream’, possibly by Balakireff or Janacek, plus one of the many works written specially for Richard by a contemporary composer.

Richard Deering studied in London with Frank Merrick and Peter Wallfisch and his engagements, which have been in remote villages as well as major cities, have taken him to more than 90 countries worldwide.

Recognised as an authority on British music through his lectures, concerts, broadcasts, recordings and writings, he has been entrusted with many first performances by leading composers of the calibre of Malcolm Arnold, Thomas Wilson, Edward Gregson, Edward McGuire and Brian Chapple.

Many composers have written especially for him and he has commissioned several new works. In 1981 he was elected a member of the Royal Philharmonic Society for "distinguished services to British music," while in 2006 he was given the Trinity College London Chairman's Award for services to musical education assessment.

In addition to solo and lecture-recitals, he is very busy as an accompanist, and has also given lighter programmes of music and 'chat' for several television stations and on cruise liners.

Richard Deering has considerable experience as a teacher, and has also served on competition juries throughout the British Isles as well as International and National Competitions in Canada, Trinidad, South Africa, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Sri Lanka. Since 2000, he has also been responsible for setting the higher grade and diploma syllabi for the worldwide examinations of Trinity College, London.

Tickets for the Flowerfield performance are priced at £10, with an £8 concession rate, which includes complimentary interval refreshments. To book tickets, please get in touch with Flowerfield Arts Centre on (028) 7083 1400.
